Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how we collect, use and share information gathered from visitors to our site.

What we collect

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string, to help spam detection.

Our site does not presently allow visitors to post comments. However, should the site be modified to allow for such, an anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture would be visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Our site presently does not provide for user registration. However, should it be modified to provide for that, for users who register on our site (if any), we would store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users would be able to see, edit, or delete their own personal information at any time (except they would not be able to change their username). Website administrators would also be able to see and edit that information.

At this time, our site also does not allow visitors to upload images or to log in. However, should the site be modified to allow for such, if you were to upload images, avoid uploading images containing embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Uploading such images would compromise your privacy: visitors to the website would be able to download and extract any location data from images on the site.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, your name, email address and website may be saved in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles posted on this site may include embedded content (for example, videos and images, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. The websites contributing such embedded content may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that other website.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have left comments on this site, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data may be sent

Your data may be shared with third parties entities or services in two respects:

First, visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Second, we may share your information where we have a good faith belief that disclosure is permitted by law or is reasonably necessary to (a) comply with a legal requirement or process, including but not limited to civil or criminal subpoenas, court orders, or other compulsory disclosures; (b) respond to claims of a violation of rights; or (c) protect the rights, property or safety of our services, visitors or the public.
